Fibromyalgia can be a painful and debilitating illness, often presenting with co-morbid depression / other mood disorders. Limited efficacy and significant side-effects from pharmacotherapy and surgical intervention has spurred great interest in the use of TMS Therapy, a non-invasive virtual side effect free as a primary and adjunctive treatment.
The below video is CBS News medical journalist, Dr. Max Gomez, interview with Dr. Alan Manevitz, MD, and Dr. James Halper on the research and clinical experience of TMS in the treatment of fibromyalgia. The following video features the interviews with each of the doctors and fibromyalgia sufferer Jeffrey and his relief of symptoms through TMS Therapy treatments.
Clinical Research of Fibromyalgia treatment with rTMS
We have recently submitted several case studies for publication on the use of TMS Therapy in the Treatment of Fibromyalgia. We will update this data in a future blog once it is accepted. Our results parallel these results published in Neurology –The Official Journal of the Academy of Neurology. *Results of Randomized trial evaluating QoL and its brain metabolic substrate.
• Thirty Eight Patients were randomized to TMS Therapy and Sham Treatment
• 14 treatments were given over a 10 week period.
• The study conclude that rTMS improves QoL compared to sham.
